On Saturday, August 14th, we took Forest to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Sulphur, OK. Forest seemed unsettled and scared about being away from familiar surroundings during his bedtime, but we all did get some sleep that night in the hotel, and Forest was ready for new adventures in the morning.
Forest got to hike down the path to Antelope and Buffalo Springs in a backpack on Daddy’s back:

We walked down the path to the springs, and I held Forest in my arms for a nice long (needed) nap at Buffalo Springs while Daddy photographed dragonflies, lizards, and birds.

Later, we went to Veterans’ Lake, ate a late picnic lunch, and Forest played on a blanket in the picnic shelter overlooking the lake. There were tons of Yellow Warblers in the trees near the picnic shelter, and it was nice to watch them while we played with Forest. Forest took his first ever brief dip in the lake (skinnydipping), and he enjoyed splashing and kicking in the water.
Forest went with mommy to Midwest City / Oklahoma City to meet her girlfriends for ladies’ night out. We ate at the Golden Palace restaurant, then went shopping at Penn Square Mall.

I walked around the mall with Forest in his sling part of the time, and everyone was commenting on how funny it was that he was folded kind of in half where his feet were up near his face, and one foot was sticking out of the sling since he is such a long baby. I didn’t get pictures of me carrying him in the sling, as I have tended to be the person behind the camera lately, but I will ask Donald to take some sling pictures soon to document how large he looks in the sling at this age. People were also surprised about how heavy his was already. He already weighs something over 19 pounds, I think, at five months old.
Forest was pretty happy at the restaurant and had a nap on the way to the mall. We met Malinda and her family at the mall, and shortly after all the Douglases held him, Forest realized it was time for a nap and started fussing loudly, which is how he often gets ready to fall asleep.
Malinda and David held Forest at the mall before his very impressively loud, pre-nap fussing performance.
After I drove back to Shawnee and nursed Forest, I pumped some extra milk to mix with rice cereal. Donald fed Forest his first ever solid food on his 5 month birthday!

Today we went to the Paseo Arts Festival with Dan and Rachel. We met them at Thai House II on Walker and 23rd in Oklahoma City, then walked to the festival after lunch. Forest slept through some of the festival in his stroller. Then, after he had a snack while listening to some singer/guitarists, he enjoyed looking around at things while Mommy carried him in his sling.

Forest enjoyed looking at many people at the arts festival.
After the arts festival, we visited Akins, the health food grocery store on north May to get some “Angel Baby Bottom Balm” as well as a few groceries. We at supper at Souper Salad and saw our dance friend, Julie! She said Forest has beautiful, blue eyes.
It was fun for mommy to go to the big city, as she has been feeling a bit too provincial in Shawnee lately.
